Biographical information
Name | Steve Ruff |
Biography | I’m a geologist with an engineer’s mind and an architect’s urge to create. Since completing my PhD at ASU in 1998, I’ve been exploring Mars from orbit and for the past 9 years, from the ground using rovers. My weekend avocation is re-imagining a 1950’s suburban tract home guided by the vision of Will Bruder and implemented via a learn-by-doing ethic. A wife and two daughters round it all out. |
Previous Works | Since 2005, I’ve been developing a screenplay treatment about scientist Steve Squyres who is spurred by his mentor Carl Sagan to send a robotic field geologist to Mars. His efforts lead to the stunningly successful Spirit and Opportunity rovers and evidence of formerly habitable environments on Mars. The treatment, called Mars Rover, has been favorably reviewed by Miguel Valenti of ASU’s School of Theatre and Film. |

Story Ideas and Burning Questions | I’m fascinated by the new standard model of the universe and how little of it we really understand. I’ve got a story idea about a physicist’s personal encounter with this “new” universe. |
