As much as I love the visual appeal of trees growing magnificently on skyscrapers, the biological mechanics escape me. Without an adequately large and deep root system – which are obviously unavailable to trees growing in planters on the 37th floor – trees are A. top heavy and B. unable to receive adequate nutrition. Mr. Green Guy alludes to this but doesn’t point it out directly, but having spent a fair amount of time in rainforests (where root systems are typically very shallow), tree falls are often a bigger danger than large animal attacks.
Tree replacement companies will love this idea, while street-level pedestrians are likely to be less enamored. On the other hand, the latter presumably wouldn’t have to worry about being killed by a window A/C units falling and hitting them on the head. Acceptable trade-off? I report, you decide.
