You can modify the DNA which is there by snipping, inserting new code, adding bits on the ends (after some snipping there). This is why I said it was not pleasant for the person, because every cell relating to the part/function you want modified would have to be invaded and changed.

Cell walls are destroyed by ultrasound. So the contents of the cell would be loose. I don’t think you could effect DNA directly except for the cells it belongs on being destroyed. Changing DNA is a chemical process.
Sound weapons just explode many cells at the same time. Explode enough, the body just dissolves into a watery mess.

Well if you have any specific questions about the body’s interaction with sound, you can shoot them my way. I have a biomedical engineering background but I have been an artist and writer since I was very small.

Is anyone on here interested in starting a dialogue about medical technology (one example is tissue engineered organs, limbs) and some of the implications for society and for science fiction?

I agree with many on the list but I would add Alan Dean Fosters’s Humanx books particularly the Flinx adventure stories and also James White’s Sector General series. This series takes a serious look as to how do you group aliens together so that the different ones can figure out if they can share breathing space, food, medicine, etc.
